Wales was the host team in this last qualifier World Cup match that was played at 8:30 pm.
The two teams’ last friendly was played in the year 2016, in which Ukraine had won the game 1-0.
Ukraine had won its last game, which was a playoff versus Scotland 3-1 and also won the one before that versus Austria 2-1, and therefore the war-stricken Ukrainians were very hopeful to find their way to the World Cup.
Sunday’s match was played under very heavy rain and Ukraine was the stronger team and owned the ball mainly, but a fault at minute 43 of the match led to Garret Bill’s winning goal.
Wales entry in the World Cup comes after that team’s being away from those competitions for 64 years and it is their 2nd appearance at the World Cup.
